AVI SAYS THAT HE NEVER LETS THE TRUTH SPOIL A GOOD STORY AND SOMETIMES A SIMPLE STORY WITH THE RIGHT AMOUNT OF LIES BECOMES A BEAUTIFUL STORY.

A Vikhe Patil Memorial School and Flame University alumnus, film-maker Avi Vasu has always believed in delivering content that is out of the box. Being a creative person, he is someone who cannot sit in one place and keeps himself occupied with numerous projects. Avi’s latest film Coma Café has won accolades at several film festivals and recently also bagged the Audience Choice Runner-Up Award for Best Feature Film at the South Asian International Film Festival. Avi has been part of the Cannes film festival (France), since 2014, through his short films and his workshops. “When I made a short film, my ultimate goal was to screen it at Cannes and I am glad I could achieve that feat.” Coma Café is a story about taking control of your own destiny, and being responsible for your actions. A story about living rather than staying in a comatose state, because life is worth coming back to. “I was born and brought up with a lot of books around me thanks to my parents being published authors. Secondly, I have learned a lot from television and feel lucky to have grown up with the Internet. I was always a writer and my biggest source of inspiration has been that I am a professional eavesdropper. I don’t do it with any malice though,” says Avi, who adds that one learns so much from people’s lives because people lead such wild and livid lives. Avi also adds that he never lets the truth spoil a good story and sometimes a simple story with the right amount of lies becomes a beautiful story. “I prefer chaos. I cannot take off to a hill and write because I need constant inputs. I am kind of insecure about my work and 9 out of 10 times I feel what I write is crap.”
